Woman Maimed In Parking Accident

An unidentified woman in Scotland was seriously maimed during a freak parking accident in which a driver of a car backed into her when she was putting groceries into the boot of her car. The driver was cited for a violation for the accident that occurred as the driver was backing out of a parking space.

Apparently, across the aisle of the car park, a woman listening to an IPOD was loading groceries into the boot of her car from a shopping trolley when the car, a Citroen, backed into her. It caused the boot to slam onto the hands of the woman, severing one of her hands.

The hand could not be reattached but doctors were able to save her right hand which was also damaged in the accident. People who were in the car park called an ambulance and put the severed hand into a large glass of ice to try to salvage the appendage. Unfortunately, because of the extent of the damage, there was little doctors could do.

The woman will now be fitted with an artificial hand. She will have to learn to write all over again as she was left handed. The man who hit the woman in this freak parking accident, whose name has not been released, said that he purchased Citroen parking sensors the day before and planned to install them on the front and rear of his vehicle after his neighbor experienced a similar incident in England. In this case, his neighbor hit a woman in a wheelchair and broke her leg.

Parking accidents do not account for too many deaths among adults in the United Kingdom, but tragically, children are killed each year as they play in driveways and people back over them. There have been several near misses in the news lately and many people are now equipping their cars with parking sensors, particularly in the rear of their cars.

Parking sensors can be purchased online for under one hundred pounds. They are easily installed to the back side of the front or rear bumper and make a loud beeping sound when the bumper comes into close contact with an object or a human. Any obstruction will set off the alarm, which can be life saving.

In the case of the severed hand victim in Scotland, the parking accident could have easily been avoided had the driver of the Citroen installed the parking sensors right away. The fact that he driver got them to avoid such an incident as what happened in the car park makes this story even more tragic and poignant.

There are hundreds of parking accidents in the United Kingdom each year and many result in deaths. Most of the deaths from parking accidents involve young children. By equipping your car with a parking sensor such as those easily obtained at Parking Dynamics, which has devices for every type of car, you can avoid a tragedy such as the one in Scotland in which this unfortunate woman was maimed for life.

I can't believe the ease by which the parking sensor was fitted and we just love the discrete 'hidden' sensor design. What a difference the PD1 makes to both mine and my wife's parking and reversing.

The audible alert keeps our attention to a maximum level and really helps with tight parking spaces.
