How Parking Sensors Could Have Saved My Mother

I blame a good deal of the death of my elderly mother, Mrs. Beatrice Mills, from a careless driver who backed into her when she was sitting in front of a store in her wheelchair. She could not get away as the car backed into her and ended up in hospital.

This was the start of many problems for my mother who passed away recently. I think if the driver of that car had parking sensors attached to his vehicle, she might still be alive.

My mother came down with an infection after leaving the hospital. Although this soon cleared up, she then developed a rash which was an allergic reaction from the medication. She scratched the rash and developed skin poisoning. Some of the sores turned septic and she went back to hospital.

Although the sores were cured, she then developed pneumonia and died. She was only 89 and had a few good years in her.

The driver of the vehicle that did not have parking sensors lived in Scotland and apparently had not heard about countless cases in England where people have either been killed or spared, simply because they either chose to have or did not have parking sensors on their car.

I truly feel that there should be a law passed where all cars have to have parking sensors so that people like my mother and that poor old man, Mr. St. John, would not have to die needlessly.

My husband has a brother who lives in the United States and said that if this was happening over there, people would be suing one another left and right. This does not happen as often in the United Kingdom and I could not find a solicitor who would take the case against the Scot who failed to have parking sensors on his car and who hit my mother.

I have installed Volkswagon parking sensors on both the front and the back of my car so that I can avoid any type of collision when I am backing up or pulling into a parking spot at the shopping centre.  These were easily obtained at Parking Dynamics and I installed them myself rather than wait for my husband to do this job for me. The parking sensors cannot be seen on my car but they do go off whenever I get too close to an object.

Just the other day, I was pulling in to the parking lot of the hospital where I work and started thinking about my poor mother. I was not paying attention to what I was doing and soon heard the beep of the parking sensor. I was just about to hit a pole, which would have caused a dent in my car.

If people realized how easy it is to get parking sensors for any make or model of car and how quick they are to install (as well as the low cost of these items) they might be more inclined to purchase these items themselves. I wish the man from Scotland had learned about parking sensors before he hit my mother.

I can't believe the ease by which the parking sensor was fitted and we just love the discrete 'hidden' sensor design. What a difference the PD1 makes to both mine and my wife's parking and reversing.

The audible alert keeps our attention to a maximum level and really helps with tight parking spaces.
