Preventing Parking Accidents Pt7 – Driveway Safety!
Backing out of your driveway is the most dangerous manoeuvre that you can make in your car. Why?
When you back out of your driveway, you literally need eyes in the back of your head. You must make absolute sure that your household members, neighbour’s children and pets are accounted for before you put the vehicle in gear.
If you don’t pay full attention while backing up you could run over a bicycle, garden tool, your family pet or even a small child. My daughter-in law once backed over my
motorcycle in my own driveway, much to my frustration because like an idiot I’d left it directly behind in her blind spot.
These things happen when humans are involved, human error is very real.
The hard reality is Children die every year because a family member or neighbor backs over them while they are playing in the driveway. Ask yourself, could you live with
the fact that you’ve injured or even killed a child?
According to a recent report, the number of children injured in parking accidents is almost equal to the number of those injured in all other automobile accidents every
year. That’s huge!
Other data shows that the family driveway is second only to the backyard pool as a deadly hazard for young children. I’d ask you now to imagine how you would feel if you ran over your child… your grandchild… niece… nephew or a neighbor’s child and they unfortunately died.
Wouldn’t you immediately take action to prevent this happening? A parking sensor is designed to do exactly this, to prevent this kind of accident.
