PD1 Rear Ford parking sensor provides your car with full rear bumper protection when parking and reversing, alerting you to approaching objects via an audible speaker.

When reverse gear is engaged the PD1 Rear Ford parking sensor provides an instant, automatic, self-diagnostic function that maps out the surrounding area of your rear bumper constantly monitoring this as you reverse with 100% accuracy, providing you with 3 different audible tones (Zones) alerting you of your proximity in relation to surrounding objects!

The full length of your bumper (including the sides) is protected with an ever increasing beeping sound.

As you reverse, Zone 1 (furthest away from your vehicle) detects the approaching object first.

Zone 1: 80 to 50 cm in length - The 1st tone signals with a slow "be-be-be" sound

Zone 2: 50 to 25 cm in length - The 2nd tone is a faster "be-be-be" sound

Zone 3: 25cm and less - the 3rd tone is a constant "beeeeeep" sound

Here is what you will get if you order the Ford Parking Dynamics PD1 Rear today!

A. The Speaker is small and at just 20mm in diameter mounts anywhere inside of the vehicle and can be run to any location. The audible tones that are emitted to alert you of the proximity of surrounding objects can be clearly heard even when mounted at the back of the vehicle close to or behind interior panels.

B. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is the 'brain' of the PD1, and mounts securely using the supplied adhesive strip either inside of the boot or behind the vehicle bumper. The front ECU mounts under the bonnet or inside of the car, typically behind the glove box. Dimensions of this compact rear sensor unit are just (L57mm x H13mm x D33mm) and the front sensor dimensions are (L75mm x H23mm x D40mm)

C. The Antenna is a very strong and flexible adhesive metallic tape that mounts behind the bumper. Its 1cm height and 2.7m length gives you flexibility to run over bumper curves and round bumper mouldings and ensures 100% bumper coverage of even the largest vehicle, offering a full, all round protection zone. The antenna can be cut to any length in seconds.

Universal Installation Instructions are included covering the easy 3-wire installation enabling any basic DIYer to install the PD1 Ford parking sensor without any problems making the installation simple, safe and secure.

Installation & Compatibility

Installing the PD1 Ford Parking Sensor on cars & vehicles with a plastic bumper!

The Universal Ford Parking Dynamics PD1 is compatible with any Car, Vehicle, Van, 4x4, MPV, SUV and Motor home that has a plastic bumper and as 99.9% of cars and vehicles have plastic bumpers, you have no need to be concerned, even if your bumper appears part metal the PD1 will work. If you are in any doubt please contact us.

The PD1 antenna is easy to fit and requires no bumper adjustments or holes ensuring a damage free installation. The antenna is cost effective to replace should you wish to move the sensor to a new car in the future or simply require a replacement.

Mounting the Electronic Control Unit (ECU):

The Rear ECU can be installed in various locations such as inside of the boot behind the trim or inside your rear bumper with the included adhesive mount. The Front ECU can be installed inside of the engine bay or behind the glove box, dashboard or trim with the included adhesive mount.

Mounting the Speaker:

Mount the Ford parking sensor speaker using the included adhesive mount. The volume is loud enough to provide a good warning even if mounted behind your vehicles interior trim. This connects to the ECU by push fit connection. Can be extended up to 15M and will mount in any location.

Mounting the Antenna:

Mount the adhesive metallic parking sensor antenna onto the inner side of the front and/or rear bumper (depending upon which sensor option you choose) making sure the bumper surface is clean before attaching.

Ensure the terminal connector is on the side where you have located the ECU. When the antenna has been attached, covering the whole of the bumper from left to right (leaving approx 15cm from the edges); the excess length is cut off. Place a piece of the included adhesive material or tape at either end of the antenna to ensure a secure installation onto the bumper. Its recommended (but not essential) to cover antenna length with a black anti-rust protection paint that is applied to the underneath of a car chassis or similar to protect from the elements.

It is important that the antenna is installed at the highest part from the ground that corresponds to the furthest distance from the vehicle body as a precaution to prevent any interference from nearby metal parts. The recommended position of the Ford parking sensor antenna is at least 40cm from ground level, with 50cm being optimum.

Once the bumper is removed, if your vehicle has a metal crash protection bar and the antenna will be within 3 cm's of this metal bar (once the bumper is re-fitted) you can install a 2nd Antenna (included with all PD1 sensors) to prevent any reduction in detection range or insulate the metal crash bar. This is only required on a small number of vehicles but the option is available if required. Read these 2 technical documents to learn more. DIY Installation & Ford Bumper Removal

99.9% of Ford car & vehicle bumpers are made of plastic making the PD1 fully compatible. Installing the Parking Dynamics PD1 Ford car parking and reverse sensor is simple, safe and secure. Depending on your Ford car or vehicle, the bumper may have to be removed. On some cars just loosening the bumper by releasing the locator screws will enable access for installation. If you choose a professional installation most auto electricians, car Fordo and security installers, mechanics and body shop technicians will remove the bumper literally in minutes.

Removal of the bumper is not as difficult as it at first may seem and is typically held on with 2-4 main bolts and screws and some locators. In a few cases rivets are used that need to be popped out and simply replaced from your Ford dealer parts department (at a minimal cost) when re-fitting.

If required your dealer's parts department can provide an exploded view (print off) of your front and rear bumper assembly and this will show you exactly how the bumper is fixed to your car or vehicle and where any screws, locators or rivets can be found. Alternatively a Haynes Manual will detail this information.

Post sale you will receive an email of our recommended professional installers.

Ford PD1 is 100% Compatible

Electromagnetic (PD1) or Ultrasonic Technology?

Totally unique in design, the PD1 parking and reverse sensors are a superior alternative to the older ultrasonic type sensor technology that requires you to drill 4 or 6 holes in your bumper, mounting ugly black sensors that then need painting to colour code and match the shade of your bumper... The Parking Dynamics PD1 makes this a thing of the past!

The PD1 antenna has a minimum price to replace and gives you optimum flexibility as it fits bumpers of all shapes and sizes and can run over or around uneven bumper surfaces.

New Ford CAN Bus Systems:

Many new Ford cars and vehicles now come with the CAN Bus multiplex wiring system fitted. The Ford PD1 is fully CAN Bus compatible and requires no adjustment or extra accessories when installing. Beware of ultrasonic systems that require extra wiring and relay components in order to fully integrate with CAN Bus systems. Connect the wrong aftermarket parking sensor and it could be costly. The PD1 eliminates this problem!

Ford Vehicles Fitted with a Tow Bar:

Ford Parking Dynamics PD1 is the recommended Parking and Reverse Sensor for vehicles with a Tow bar fitted as performance is not affected. It's the only Ford Parking Sensor available that is compatible with vehicles that have a tow bar fitted.

Ford Vehicles with Spare Wheel on Rear Door:

The Ford Parking Dynamics PD1 will continue to operate effectively when fitted to vehicles with a Spare Wheel fixed on the rear door such as 4x4, MPV or SUV's. It's the only Parking and Reverse Sensor available that is compatible with vehicles that have a spare wheel fixed to rear door.

Ford Vehicles with a Metal Bumper:

The Ford Parking Dynamics PD1 Front, Rear and Vision Parking and Reverse Sensors are not compatible with metal bumpers straight out of the box. However with a few insulating adjustments to your metal bumper, the PD1 will be fully compatible. See the Metal Bumper Installation Technical Document to learn more.

fitted this today although i bought it a week or so ago but i was on holiday.simple to fit although iam a little worried about the connection on the antennae wire but time will tell the rest was simple to install i just wonder whether a louder buzzer could be fitted but apart from that a good product at a good price the delivery was also excellent, would defo recommend.

Eric Smith: Saturday 21 May, 2011

I fitted the PD1 sensor kit to my 09 Ford Focus hatch-back. The job was very simple and although I thought the metal crash bar was going to be a problem it doesn't seem to have affected the sensor range. I only fitted 1 antenae and it picks up obstructions at 70cm.
A first class product, highly recommended (if a little expensive) and could easily be removed and transferred to another vehicle before sale.

Nick Kirkpatrick: Friday 02 April, 2010

Ordered the Rear Parking Sensor for my Mondeo ST220 - arrived very promptly - much quicker than expected.
Instructions were detailed and clear - I was a little nervous about installing it, but having picked up a Haynes manual, I was confident that I had identified the correct wire for the reversing lights.

Electrical installation and placement of ECU was very easy, and once the manual had also helped with the bumper removal (although the ST220 has a screw near each light unit that the manual doesn't tell you about), I was easily able to affix the antenna in an optimal position, and was happy with the test results. Tiny speaker is easily hidden in the boot, but loud enough to hear in a large car.

Really pleased with the no-drilling solution, and definitely worth the money. Almost forked out for installation, but glad I didn't - DIY approach was successful, and worthwhile, if a little slower (mostly due to the bumper removal!)

Minor negative point - it does seem to behave strangely in the heavy rain, but the instructions cover how it detects this and cuts back the sensitivity - so perhaps I just need to get used to it.

Matthew McElroy: Wednesday 23 December, 2009

Proving to be an excellent system with the benefits of being hidden with no drilling of bodywork and providing a broader scan range.

Tomasic Goran: Tuesday 06 October, 2009

It's really easy to install this parking sensor!
Big benefit is that there are just few wires which have to be connected in order to make it work.

Installation was over in 10 minutes.. although it could be even easier if few more pictures/ilustrations are given for provided connectors/wires.

Fitting only one antenna on my Ford Focus MK2 could be not sensitive enough, because of metal crash-bar under bumper... but it's matter of opinion. The 2nd antenna is provided in package, so I just have to try.

Overall opinion, very good price-value !!!

Christopher David Askew: Wednesday 16 September, 2009

Feeling fairly confident that I could install these sensor packs myself, I waited for a sunny day (long wait!) before attempting to remove the bumpers. The car is a new shape 08 Focus Estate. Installation of the rear sensor pack was surprisingly simple; removed 6 screws and 2 plastic rivets and the rear bumper simply unclips. There is a grommet in the left hand side that leads to the perfect position for the electronics module with easy access to the required connections to the reversing lamp. There was plenty of cable to run the length of the car (following existing cables) to the rear view mirror for the display (no need to remove the headlining) Total time for the rear kit was about 2 hours, including the waterproofing paint on the antenna.
I found the front kit as easy - in this case, after removing the protection plate below the front bumper I had enough room to install the antenna without removing the bumper. Installing the electronics module near the fusebox and passing the cable through an existing grommet I decided to put the switch on a seperate plastic box (Maplin!) so I didn't drill the dash. Again job done in less than an hour. Best of all - no drilling holes for unsightly ulrasonic sensors, entirely unseen.
The operation of both kits is superb, in the first week saving my rear bumper from an unseen towball! I thoroughly recommend this kit.

Stephen O'Callaghan: Monday 03 August, 2009

The sensors are easy to fit and work really well. The only difficulties I had with a new Mondeo was working out how to get the bumpers off as I had no instructions. The rear bumper was relatively easy and once all the obvious screws were undone it easily unclipped. The front bumper had two concealed bolts on each side holding it to the front wing. I looked on the internet and found the information stating that the wheel arch linings had to be pulled back to reveal the bolts. As the reversing lights are in the rear door I had to locate the live feed in the wiring harness as it passes down from the rear door into the rear left side. Note it is not the bundle of wires going to the rear fusebox but it is located in the bundle of wires that go forward into the car.

An excellent product that works really well.

Rahul Raje: Thursday 18 June, 2009

I purchased the PD1 rear parking sensor in the UK for my Ford Fusion Hatchback in India. The fitment of the sensor was very easy with the given guidelines.. and as the ground clearance of the fusion is high there was no need to remove the bumper either. So installation was over in minutes.. had a little difficulty in pinpointing positve wire of the reversing light, but that too was sorted out. The performance is excellent and even a small obstacle is detected immediately. Very essential for parking in the crowded streets. I wish I had the indicator also.

John Michael Davies: Saturday 28 February, 2009

Packs fitted by nearest [90mls.round trip] approved installer for 85 per bumper - 20 discount for my journey, which was well worth while because it was done under cover where the removed bumpers could be carefully stored during installation. I am very glad that I did not attempt this at home because it took ages to do.
The results are very impressive once I overcame my nerveousness at moving the car so near to solid objects! The final gap is so small that it beggars belief. The rear vision display [mounted above the rear mirror] is excellent.
The first 2 weeks have been trouble-free and I can see no reason why things should change.
They are definitely recommended.

Michael Reed: Friday 21 March, 2008

After looking at cheaper parking sensors for sometime, I settled on this ford parking sensor. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than many/most of it rivals, but I believe you definitely get what you pay for! As for the detection and alerts, well its really good! Certainly as good if not better than any ultrasonic sensor.

I can't believe the ease by which the parking sensor was fitted and we just love the discrete 'hidden' sensor design. What a difference the PD1 makes to both mine and my wife's parking and reversing.

The audible alert keeps our attention to a maximum level and really helps with tight parking spaces.
