Installing the PD1 Parking Sensor on cars & vehicles with a plastic bumper!

The Universal Parking Dynamics PD1 is compatible with any Car, Vehicle, Van, 4x4, MPV, SUV and Motor home that has a plastic bumper and as 99.9% of cars and vehicles have plastic bumpers, you have no need to be concerned, even if your bumper appears part metal the PD1 will work. If you are in any doubt please contact us.

The PD1 antenna is easy to fit and requires no bumper adjustments or holes ensuring a damage free installation. The antenna is cost effective to replace should you wish to move the sensor to a new car in the future or simply require a replacement.

Mounting the Electronic Control Unit (ECU):

The Rear ECU can be installed in various locations such as inside of the boot behind the trim or inside your rear bumper with the included adhesive mount. The Front ECU can be installed inside of the engine bay or behind the glove box, dashboard or trim with the included adhesive mount.

Mounting the Speaker:

Mount the parking sensor speaker using the included adhesive mount. The volume is loud enough to provide a good warning even if mounted behind your vehicles interior trim. This connects to the ECU by push fit connection. Can be extended up to 15M and will mount in any location.

Mounting the Antenna:

Mount the adhesive metallic parking sensor antenna onto the inner side of the front and/or rear bumper (depending upon which sensor option you choose) making sure the bumper surface is clean before attaching.

Ensure the terminal connector is on the side where you have located the ECU. When the antenna has been attached, covering the whole of the bumper from left to right (leaving approx 15cm from the edges); the excess length is cut off. Place a piece of the included adhesive material or tape at either end of the antenna to ensure a secure installation onto the bumper. Its recommended (but not essential) to cover antenna length with a black anti-rust protection paint that is applied to the underneath of a car chassis or similar to protect from the elements.

It is important that the antenna is installed at the highest part from the ground that corresponds to the furthest distance from the vehicle body as a precaution to prevent any interference from nearby metal parts. The recommended position of the parking sensor antenna is at least 40cm from ground level, with 50cm being optimum.

Once the bumper is removed, if your vehicle has a metal crash protection bar and the antenna will be within 3 cm's of this metal bar (once the bumper is re-fitted) you can install a 2nd Antenna (included with all PD1 sensors) to prevent any reduction in detection range or insulate the metal crash bar. Electrical Connections

PD1 Rear Parking & Reverse Sensor:

1) Black wire MUST be connected to the ground (body / chassis) of the vehicle.
2) Red wire is connected to the 12V supply wire of the reversing light. Live only when reverse gear is selected.
3) Connect the antenna connection wire from the ECU to the antenna.

PD1 Front Parking Sensor:

1) Black wire MUST be connected to the ground (body / chassis) of the vehicle.
2) Red wire is connected in line with the switch and the 12V ignition wire. Live only when ignition is active.
3) Connect the antenna connection wire from the ECU to the antenna.

PD1 Vision Rear Parking & Reverse Sensor:

1) Black wire MUST be connected to the ground (body / chassis) of the vehicle.
2) Red wire is connected to the 12V supply wire of the reversing light. Live only when reverse gear is selected.
3) Connect the antenna connection wire from the ECU to the antenna.
4) Mount LED Display on rear view mirror and run wires to ECU.

DIY Installation & Bumper Removal

99.9% of car & vehicle bumpers are made of plastic making the PD1 fully compatible. Installing the Parking Dynamics PD1 car parking and reverse sensor is simple, safe and secure. Depending on your car or vehicle, the bumper may have to be removed. On some cars just loosening the bumper by releasing the locator screws will enable access for installation. If you choose a professional installation most auto electricians, car audio and security installers, mechanics and body shop technicians will remove the bumper literally in minutes.

Removal of the bumper is not as difficult as it at first may seem and is typically held on with 2-4 main bolts and screws and some locators. In a few cases rivets are used that need to be popped out and simply replaced from your dealer parts department (at a minimal cost) when re-fitting.

If required your dealer's parts department can provide an exploded view (print off) of your front and rear bumper assembly and this will show you exactly how the bumper is fixed to your car or vehicle and where any screws, locators or rivets can be found. Alternatively a Haynes Manual will detail this information.

Electromagnetic (PD1) or Ultrasonic Technology?

New CAN Bus Systems:

Many new cars and vehicles now come with the CAN Bus multiplex wiring system fitted. The PD1 is fully CAN Bus compatible and requires no adjustment or extra accessories when installing. Beware of ultrasonic systems that require extra wiring and relay components in order to fully integrate with CAN Bus systems. Connect the wrong aftermarket parking sensor and it could be costly. The PD1 eliminates this problem!

Vehicles Fitted with a Tow Bar:

Parking Dynamics PD1 is the recommended Parking and Reverse Sensor for vehicles with a Tow bar fitted as performance is not affected. It's the only Parking Sensor available that is compatible with vehicles that have a tow bar fitted.

Vehicles with Spare Wheel on Rear Door:

The Parking Dynamics PD1 will continue to operate effectively when fitted to vehicles with a Spare Wheel fixed on the rear door such as 4x4, MPV or SUV's. It's the only Parking and Reverse Sensor available that is compatible with vehicles that have a spare wheel fixed to rear door.

Vehicles with a Metal Bumper:

The Parking Dynamics PD1 Front, Rear and Vision Parking and Reverse Sensors are not compatible with metal bumpers straight out of the box. The product arrived 48hrs after ordering,was well packaged and contained all the relevant instalation information. After having a good look at the information provided and around the rear bumper of my Toyota Auris, I decided the £120.00 instalation fee would be money well spent, so I duly booked a fitting. The fitter came at the appointed time and made the job look easy(as people with experience and the correct tools tend to do). He explained everything that he did, and completed the job in approximately 1hr 45mins.
I'm happy to say that the PD1 Parking Sensor is working perfectly, so all in all "a thoroughly efficient and professional package".

I am delighted with this product!

The package was received quickly for an international shipment.

Installation was a breeze.

I installed the strip under the snap-on plastic trim on the rear bumper of my 04 BMW 330i.

I am amazed how well it works with no calibration or set-up, just application of the strip and a few connections.

I have just fitted the PD1 to the front of my Nisson XTrail. The hardest part by far was removing the bummper, but my local Nisson dealer posted me an exploded view of the fittings.

The next issue was how to get the switch & speaker cables through the bulkhead, as on most 4X4s the cable grommets are sealed against water entry when crossing deep water. I finaly managed it by following the route taken by the bonnet release cable

All this effort was well worth it as the senser works perfectly, & is completly invisible.I have rated it as a 4, it would have being a 5 if fitting was easyer.

This review is being made after my second DIY audiable front and rear Parking Dynamics installation.NEED I SAY MORE ?

OK then.

First installation was on a Volvo S40 [new shape]
Snce then the wife insists she has parking aids on the car she drives.

So impressed was she [and I] with the parking aids, that when she changed cars to a MK2 Focus [dont't ask]she wanted parking aids on that as well. So I just took the ECU's off the S40 ordered up replacement antennas.When ordering up antenna for a reinstal on another vehicle. Just ask for a speaker and wireing harness, in the "notes" box on the order page. They will send all you need including new adhesive strip, free of charge. Yes you read it correctley. FREE OF CHARGE.

So when you weigh up the cost of installing parking aid, against replacing smashed bumpers, its a no brainer really.

Parking Dynamics PD1 Parking Sensor Vision

The parking sensor was fitted into our Peugeot 207 hatchback. Not wanting to drill holes this device was an ideal fitting.
The instructions suggested the device be fitted onto the interior mirror. I preferred and actually secured it onto the dashboard, just below the top facia vents. The cable was run behind the trim down to the carpet area, so the only cable visible was approx 1” from indicator to the fascia panel trim. From there the cable was connected to the long attaching cables under the carpet to the rear.
I was unable to remove the rear bumper completely, but was able to remove most of the securing trims to flex the bumper. I was then able to remove the centre black bumper trim. This then gave me a complete area to stick the antenna on from one side to the other at the recommended height off the road. It also made it possible for me to see where the antenna connector cable could be fed, which was through a grommet to the boot interior.
Removing the rear light assembly is very easy on the 207, so the reverse light connections can be picked up easily. I followed the installation instructions for connecting the cables. I chose the lazy mans way to connect and just twisted the cables on, securing them with amalagamated tape.
As you reverse, the vision indicator will beep slowly. The distances are not quite as per the specifications. I have found the two red lights will give the long beep sound at about 1Metre away. Which I prefer anyway.
When installed I found the indicators to be a little unreliable. The kerb would give a bleeping sound. When reversing up to car the two red indicators would show and sound at one Metre. But, a week has now gone by and the computer has taught itself to react closer to the Parking Dynamics information sheets.
This project for me, has closely followed Parking Dynamics information sheets, so I am more than pleased. Other than my not being able to locate the side bumper retainers, I found the installation to be very easy.

I have been fitting these parking sensors for parking dynamics for about 18 months now and have not had one single breakdown in all that time. Everyone that has had these fitted has been very pleased with the result. My customers decision to have these is more often than not based on the fact that nothing is seen and the fact they can park closer than with ultrasonics.We shall continue to recommend these kits to our customers.

I now own a Mercedes 200 C class 52 plate and can not see out the back window to see how close to objects I am while reversing. Being an ex BMW owner I relied on my reversing sensors religously. After much searching and reading of reviews decided on the PD1 reverse sensor, We had to take the bumper strip off which (after locating the one screw each end, under the wheel arch) was tricky but we managed it with out any damage, (masking tape is wonderful stuff). Followed the instructions easily to fit the sensor strip but could not hear the bleeper so we put it on top of the parcel shelf very descreetly behind the middle head rest. Had this a week now and very satisfied, alot cheaper to buy this than repair my bumper. From starting to take the bumper strips off to testing the sensor took about 3 hours, I am a woman after all, Thanks from a satisified customer, Jenny.

I purchased the PD1 Parking sensor for my Daewoo Musso 4x4 as to se out of the back is difficult.
The hardest part of the job was to find the correct reversing cable as the lights are in the tailgate not the rear wing.
To take the bumber off was straight forward and to put the two (2) strips of aerial cable (due to the tow bar and huge metal bumper)ono the rear of the bumper was easy.
Beats drilling the bumper and possibly making a mistake and then having to rectify, this was very easy and enjoyable.
I would recomend this product to anyone wanting to protect the rear of their vehicle.

Ordered yesterday, delivered today and fitted in an hour and a half. This is an excellent product with very clear instructions. My biggest fear was removing the rear bumper but it was really easy on my wife's Fiat 500. I am delighted with the performance and distance sensitivity of the sensor. Why bother drilling into an expensive bumper when in minutes you can have an unobtrusive and highly efficient system that is weather and theft proof? The only addition I would make to the kit is to include a small rubber grommet for the sensor antenna wire but this really is a very well designed reversing aid. Thank you PD.
